The Burke County Problem Solving Courts (Accountability Courts) include DUI Court, Family Violence Court, and Mental "Help" Court. These courts promote personal responsibility by holding the participant accountable for his/her actions and behaviors. It is not a "get out of jail free" card. Accountability Courts focus on rehabilitation. Participants must go through intensive treatment, attend regular court sessions before the Judge Jerry M. Daniel, submit to frequent random alcohol and drug testing, maintain employment, be financially responsible, support their families, pay fees, and in some cases, attend school.

Accountability Courts take a team approach that functions within the exi
sting court structure. The Judge, defender, prosecutor, law enforcement, treatment provider, coordinator and others all work together to create a balance of authority, supervision, support, and encouragement for each participant.

Burke County Problem Solving / Accountability Courts have been successful by offering comprehensive social services as an alternative to incarceration or other penalties in certain types of criminal cases.
